John Fisher Old Boys Away

John Fisher Old Boys III 0 – 8 (eight) OMFC 7th XI

Match Report (by Nick Holmes)

At the beginning of the season it looked great news that the Amateur FA
had
merged two leagues - less travel and stronger teams was what I was
promised.
A Saturday trip down to the outlaw borderlands of surrey and croydon to
play
a team of has-beens and never-will-be's showed the pre-season story to
have
a few holes. If you have to play down at John Fisher this season, two
helpful points for you:
1) don't go to the pub next door, two people were shot there last week
2) when you see the ponies from Steptoe and Son, you're almost there

Bitterness over a two hour journey home now expended, some words about
the
football. The 7s started with some new faces, a passionate warm-up and
strong words sent us out focussed and up for it. As soon as we got to
grips
with the tiny sloped pitch, class told immediately. Dan got the first
on a
rebound after Del beat the keeper only to hit the post, a second came
from a
lovely one touch team move involving Nick Lee, egg, dan and then Del
chipping the keeper. More followed, customary dead-ball expertise
easily
exposing a ragged, old, slow and violent back four. Dan Castella added
another and we were 5-0 up and cruising by half-time.

Not much to add in the second half, we scored a few more, Dave Yorath
tapping in and Kevin Bryan chipping the keeper were the ones I
remember, but
we were forced to work harder for it. Special mention goes to a MOM
display
from Nick Lee at centre back, his first ever game in that position.
Tim Lee
was great in goal on the three occasions we let them within shooting
distance, the midfield really made everyone's day easy with a dynamic
display from every player, and Jay was awesome at left back again. On
to
Shene next week, a harder proposition, but not one to fear.
